A wonderful present from Sylvia Sometimes and Jon when they came to visit us. Found on a boot sale at Sutton Fields.
Made in Switzerland.
I will attempt to copy out the instructions from the selotaped box.
"THE UNIVERSAL MAP MEASURER In miles and Kilometres.
For measuring instantly and accurately any distance whether staight,curved or dented, such as the length of roads, rivers,the circuosities of coasts etc.
MANNER OF USING THE INSTRUMENT. Place the needle at 39, by turning the littlr cog-wheel with the finger; run the said wheel over the map holding the handle perpendicular and following closely the line or distance to be measured. The needle will indicate the distance in Verstes or kilometres, according ...........?.............measured."
Also on the dial is written.."STATUTE MILES" NAUTICAL MILES"
