Dunlop Minor Repair Outfit Tin

A slightly rusty tin from Lady Heynes, with some nice clear instructions on the side:-
1.Clean the tube around puncture and remove dust.
2.Apply solution to the tube and allow to become tacky.
3.Tear off protective backing from patch and apply patch with slight pressure, particularly at edges.
SPECIAL NOTE: After fixing the patch, do not attempt to lift it in order to find out whether it has stuck properly. This simply destroys the adhesion and serves no useful purpose.

I love the phrasing of the Special Note..its a bit like saying

"just leave the bloody thing alone and stop picking at it....."

Box of leads

Box of leads
Originally uploaded by a1scrapmetal.
This is perhaps extending the limits of the strange "metal" object.
Or pushing the envelope as Roger would say.
The box is made from card and wood and the pencil leads made from graphite (or plumbago to be more precise).
On the ends are tiny ridged metal covers ...and this is the bit I really like. They are there to reinforce the pencil lead.

Cow and Gate Knife

Cow and Gate Knife
Originally uploaded by a1scrapmetal.
This is quite small and has a fold out knife and bottle opener.
The Words COW and GATE stamped on it.
Perhaps a free give away from that famous powdered milk.
It is a baby version of the Swiss Army pen knife.

Chalk Grater?

Chalk Grater
Originally uploaded by a1scrapmetal.
This seems a good time to add this one.
Another piece of metal with holes in it.
This is a small grater that was in a Romac bicycle puncture repair tin.
I thought it was used to grate a very hard chalk into dust onto the tyre to make sure it was dry before glueing.
But reading this information in the tin, it says it is to roughen the area of the tyre before applying the glue.
Michael thought it was for the chalk too.
Perhaps that what we have being doing wrong all this time.

Tiny Paper Tube of Pins

Tiny Paper tube of Pins
Originally uploaded by a1scrapmetal.
This is my very latest boot sale find, from Chelford Boot Sale.
As I picked it up I said to Archie
"wow this could be my find of the day"
A lady behind me then said to me in an Australian accent .
"excuse me but I must know what is your find of the day?"
and she looked at me a bit baffled when I showed it to her and said..
"Its a roll of rusty old toilet pins".
I don't think she was impressed.
This roll of pins is just over an inch high. The pins all have black plastic balls on the end.

Selection of Metal Curlers

Selection of Metal Curlers
Originally uploaded by a1scrapmetal.
This selection of Metal curlers has been gathered from different Boot Sales over the years.
The one on the far left has
"End Curl"
Stamped on it.
The DINKIE curler (2nd from left) is very easy to find and must have been popular with permed ladies in the 60's.
The other three are very tricky to use and can (if used wrongly) pull great lumps of hair out.

So it has its uses and was 50 pence well spent.

Iodised Throat Lozenges Tin

I have a few in my collection that I like for their instructions.
IODISED THROAT LOZENGES
for the VOICE, MOUTH and THROAT
"Acts like a GARGLE. Always efficacious and reliable."
The only other place I have seen the word efficacious used is the AWFUL Lily the pink song.

Boxed Hair Ckippers
Originally uploaded by a1scrapmetal.
Another boot sale find..untested as yet.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
To maintain the Hair Clipper in good working order the cutting plates should be kept free from dirt and grease.

The tension nut should be set with just sufficient pressure to allow the Clipper to cut freely along the entire edge of the bottom plate.

After use remove all hair from the Clipper and lightly oil the cutting plates with sewing machine oil or similar grade.

Special care should be taken with the cutting plates as they are "Dead Hard" and will easily break.

Close Up of the Universal Cookmetre

Close Up
Originally uploaded by a1scrapmetal.
Your UNIVERSAL COOKMETRE has been specially designed for use in your kitchen.......The non-conductive handle allows you to hold the thermometre even when used in hot liquids....The thermometre should not be immersed directly into hot liquids such as fat but allowed to warm up with the liquid.
I know what chips, doughnuts, jam and junket are..but not sure about crack, small crack ,hardball and softball?
Perhaps my American readers know (Hi Syl...any idea?).
